Flagship Studios Closing

The company behind Hellgate: London is shutting down.

US, August 15, 2008 - The studio behind the Hellgate: London MMO has "for all intents and purposes" closed down, Flagship Studios co-founder and COO Max Schafer told game industry site Gamasutra.

The San Fransisco-based studio was founded in 2003 by Bill Roper along with Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer, and David Brevik, several members who worked Blizzard's Diablo action-RPG. When Flagship's first and only released game, Hellgate: London, launched, it was plagued with bugs that crashed the game. Some subscribers' accounts were also billed numerous times on accident, and early patches deleted gamers' avatars. The buggy launch lead CEO Bill Roper to admit that the game was too ambitious and should have narrowed its focus.

The company attempted to fix Hellgate's various issues and offered constant updates and fixes in the months that followed the launch. However, talks of employees leaving "in droves" began to spread via a Flagship employee blog posting shortly after. The posting has since been taken down. Exodus talks were later denied by both the company and the individual employee in a public statement. However, it was later confirmed by Roper that Flagship's Studios did indeed lay off most of its employees, and attributed it to the fact that the company could no longer sustain its size. To add to the chaos, Hellgate's Korean publisher, HanbitSoft, later asserted that it was keeping the rights to the Hellgate: London IP in the Asian markets as collateral for Flagship's loans. This left the fate of the game in North America in uncertain waters. Zack Karlsson, Senior Director of Business Development for Namco Bandai, the MMO's North American publisher, asserted that Namco Bandai may step in to keep the Hellgate: London servers running, although no official announcements were made.

Hellgate: London was not the only Flagship game to face financial cuts. Mythos, the company's other action RPG, was put on hiatus. Shortly after, Flagship laid off Ping0, the development subsidiary that was working on Mythos. Although Max Schaefer and several Mythos team members have recently formed Runic Games, the new company has not released any detailed plans for the potential launch of the IP.

Schaefer recently told Gamecyte.com, in regards to the closure, that the company is currently trying to "take care of the final affairs." He added, "It's a little bit of a new experience for all of us. We don't exactly know the 'proper' way to close down a company."

»Spiderman Villain
This isnt a rumor or leaked info, just my opinion on who they should have for the next Villain.

One of my favourite bad guys was Michael Morbius.

They really should bring him in, plus, there haven't been that many GREAT vampire films, so a mix of Spiderman and Vampire combat would be a good watch.

Hell, it would be cool to see there version of Morbius.

»Orton Re-Injured
The following is from WWE.com:
Randy Orton was involved in a motorcycle accident near his home Sunday night that could have ended his life were he not wearing a helmet.

Orton, who has only been riding motorcycles for a month, said he was riding around a sharp curve on a steep hill home when an oncoming car veered into his lane causing him to widen his turn.

Orton then struck a curb and was thrown from his bike. He collided with the ground, knocking him unconscious. In his words, Orton "bounced and rolled just under 300 feet, landing in a ditch."

"When I came to, I knew I had rebroken my collarbone," said Orton. "When the police and fireman got there, they asked me 'Where's the guy who was in the wreck?' and I said 'It was me.'"

Orton, who was wearing just shorts and a sweatshirt, only sustained the rebroken collarbone.

"Without a helmet, I would be dead," said Orton. "Now that I have a newborn daughter, so much was going through my head."

Although the initial prognosis is that Orton will not need surgery, this injury will set him back an additional three months before he can return to the ring.

Orton did have one final message for his fans ... "I will ride again."

Orton was rumored to be returning at Summer Slam before the wreck.

»Rampage going on a rampage...
We reported here [wrestlinginc.com] yesterday that UFC star Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was arrested at gunpoint yesterday in California after crashing into 2 cars, fleeing the scene and leading police on a 5-minute car chase. He was charged with felony hit and run and felony evading arrest and was taken to a hospital last night for evaluation. New details have surfaced regarding the incident.
TMZ.com reports that Rampage was on the 55 Freeway in Orange County, California when he hit 2 cars. Instead of stopping, he got off the freeway and the police chase was on. Rampage then began driving on the center divider. According to the police report, Jackson then drove on the sidewalk, "causing pedestrians to flee for their lives." He started driving the wrong way on a crowded street, colliding with yet another car in an intersection. It's not over yet.

As he continued on, running several red lights, his tire blew out and he began driving on the rim. He eventually got to Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, where he again driving on the sidewalk, "causing pedestrians to flee in terror."

His car eventually came to a stop and he was taken into custody at gunpoint. Cops took him to the Orange County Jail, but they determined he was "medically unfit" to be booked. No word on whether drugs were involved. Rampage is currently under evaluation at an Orange County hospital.

In an interview conducted with Throwdown TV just 24 hours before the incident, Rampage seemed a little off, but revealed that he had been battling depression, injuries as well as sleep and weight issues in recent weeks.

[Update]
Watch out pedestrians -- Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was just released into the wild.
After being refused from a Orange County jail for being "medically unfit" -- Rampage was treated an O.C. hospital and released on $25,000 bail.

We're told UFC president Dana White posted the bail. What a nice boss!

Also, the following was just posted on TMZ.com:

When the Toyo tire company decided to officially sponsor Rampage Jackson and plaster their name on the side of his monster truck, there's no way in hell they could've expected this kind of exposure in return. Now, the company, who's name was clearly displayed on Rampage's mayhem-causing, fear-inducing billboard on wheels has made it clear they have no intentions of dropping the fighter -- even though he managed to blow out one of their tires during the police chase yesterday. Any publicity is good publicity, right?

JJ: Alright I'm not trying to stick up for the guy but the ending to his fight with Griffen was stupid. I wanted Griffen to win but come on, For the most part Rampage should of won or went to a split.
